A thorough review of Mexico City’s news Metrobus Line 4.
Make-Believe →
I haven’t heard the album, but this review really ticked me off. The idea that it was only four years ago that pop and “underground” began to mix is just laughable, and it’s the crux of the whole piece. The editors at Pitchfork know better. Not sure why they’re willing to be so intellectually lazy.

Passengers file a complaint against a pesero driver for driving too fast, bumping his music too loud and chatting with his buddies while driving. Or, y’know, basically for being a pesero driver.

Talks to animals
I have a friend who is very knowledgeable about science who suggested that we as humanity should be spending a lot more of our resources and computer-crunching ability to see if we can figure out the basic logic and syntax of what creatures such as dolphins are saying to each other, in the hopes that maybe someday we could communicate with what are the only other forms of reasonably intelligent...

Keep on biking →
The frontrunner in Mexico City’s mayoral elections says he favors more bike lanes, building on the infrastructure Marcelo Ebrard has laid out. It’s a vague statement, and I still have some mixed feelings about whether dedicated lanes are the safest and most effective use of resources, but it’s good to see he’s on the same page as Ebrard on cycling being an important part of...

– Cuban comes back with about as honest an apology as you’re likely to see. I thought for a second he was going into that useless “everyone’s a little bit racist” space, but he doesn’t. Good for him.
You know how I know that? Because I am a human adult who is alive.
– For all his experience in the spotlight, Cubes can come off a little weird in interviews, and I think that’s partly because he has some nervous energy that makes him blurt things out from time to time. Not to excuse what was a juvenile and homophobic joke.

– Hear hear, at least on the first part. I find some of the arguments about infrastructure questionable, since in many cases paving roads is good for bikes too, and building highways for interstate commerce reduces the cost of goods, theoretically, for all citizens. But, yeah, gas subsidies and the...

– Gonna disagree with you, Sasha Frere-Jones. Sometimes a good writer coming in from outside the BS is exactly what we need. This stuff isn’t rocket science. I would encourage you to profile an Al Qaeda member, but maybe that’s why I’m not a magazine editor.

I am celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fluxblog with a series of survey mixes for each year the site has existed. First up: 2002! 140 songs on 8 discs, with music from Missy Elliot, Kylie Minogue, Wilco, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, Cam’ron, The Kills, The Rapture, Cee Lo Green, Coldplay, Ashanti, Andrew W.K., Sleater-Kinney, Clinic, Sonic Youth,...
I asked the yoisthisracist guy about this, but you can’t embed video when you ask him a question. I told him to maybe Google it, but I’m sure he gets a lot of e-mails so this one didn’t make the cut. Anyway, this is a South African mixed-race guy making fun of black people in the U.S., which, OK, maybe a tough call, but the Jay Leno audience’s unhinged laughter made me feel...

It follows that Kobe must be a huge Sarver fan, right? His biggest ally?
In any case, the knock against the Phoenix-LA rivalry since like forever has been that LA didn’t really care about Phoenix all that much. I think that’s still true of the Laker fans, but glad to see that we get under the skin of the only Laker that matters.
